Electrician

Introduction

During the two years duration of Electrician trade a candidate is trained on professional skill, professional knowledge, Engineering Drawing, Workshop Calculation & Science and Employability skill. In addition to this a candidate is entrusted to undertake project work and extracurricular activities to build up confidence. The broad components covered are categorized into four semesters:

1 First Semester

Safety, environment, and fire extinguisher use. Trade tools, identifying conductors, cables, and skinning/joint making. Basic electrical laws (Kirchhoff, Ohm's) and laws of magnetism logic applied in single & poly-phase circuits.

2 Second Semester

Wiring practice with distribution fuse boxes and energy meters. Pipe/plate earthing, sodium vapour fittings, multimeters, frequency meters, testing domestic heating accessories, induction operations, and small transformer setups.

3 Third Semester

Rotating machines: DC machines, induction motors, alternators & MG sets. Extensive practice on performance analysis, speed control, synchronization, internal winding, and overhauling of DC/Induction machines.

4 Fourth Semester

Diodes, bridge rectifiers, switching devices, CRO testing. Electronic speed controllers. Testing stabilizers, emergency lights, UPS. Knowledge of thermal, hydel, solar systems, relays, and circuit breakers.

Career Progression Pathways

  • Can appear in 10+2 examination through NIOS for acquiring higher secondary certificate.
  • Can take admission in diploma course in notified branches of Engineering by lateral entry.
  • Can join formal Apprenticeship programmes leading to a National Apprenticeship Certificate (NAC).
  • Can join Crafts Instructor Training Scheme (CITS) in the trade for becoming an instructor in ITIs.
